Culture of Health
A term that is both an aspirational concept and guiding framework. The concept acknowledges that complex social factors influence well-being, and that to create systems, policies, and practices that improve population health and equity, diverse sectors must be engaged. The framework is a guide to make health a priority for partners across diverse sectors. The framework outlines actions, priorities, and measures that guide actions individuals, organizations, and community members can take to foster community well-being.
Framework
Broad overview, outline, or skeleton of interlinked items which supports a particular approach to a specific objective and serves as a guide that can be modified as required by adding or deleting items.
Health Disparities
Differences in health status between people related to social or demographic factors such as race, gender, income or geographic region. Health disparities are one way we can measure our progress toward achieving health equity.

When everyone has the opportunity to attain their highest level of health.
Health Inequities
Barriers that prevents individuals and communities from accessing the conditions that enable them from reaching their full potential.
Population Health
The health outcomes of a group of individuals, including the distribution of such outcomes within the group.
Public Health
The promotion and protection of the health of people and the communities where they live, learn, work, and play.
Public Health Nurse (PHN)
A nursing professional with educational preparation in public and community health with a focus on primary prevention and population-level outcomes. In California, individuals must meet the requirements outlined by the licensing entity to obtain a PHN certificate to practice as a PHN.
PHN Class Rotation
The PHN class rotation refers to the theory portion of the course, taught by faculty in academia, and the clinical rotation, which involves the public health experiences students receive to obtain their clinical rotation hours.
Registered Nurse (RN)
A nurse who has completed and graduated from a nursing program and fulfilled the requirements of the nursing licensing body (country, state, province, etc.). A RN must pass the nursing board exam (NCLEX-RN) and meet all other licensing requirements mandated by their state’s board of nursing to practice as a nurse.
Registered Nursing Program
An academic nursing program that prepares the student to obtain his/her Registered Nurse license upon graduation. Programs can include Associate, Bachelors, and Entry Level Masters programs.

Conditions in the places where people live, learn, work, and play that affect a wide range of health risks and outcomes.
